Sparta Police Department Opens Warming Center
With temperatures dipping into single digits and wind chills of -4 degrees possible before climbing again, here's more about the center.
SPARTA, NJ — With wind chills as low as minus 3 degrees forecast on Wednesday, Sparta’s Office of Emergency Management has opened its Go2 Warming Center.
The National Weather Service predicts temperatures to plunge to about 5 degrees overnight Tuesday, with wind chills as low as minus 4. As they rise again on Wednesday, forecast with a daytime high at about 33, wind chills are expected to hover at minus 3, with wind gusts up to 25 mph.
With the freezing temperatures, residents who can head to Sparta’s police station to warm up or charge devices if they need to, according to the Office of Emergency Management.

“Please see our dispatchers,” the police department wrote, “and they will provide you assistance.”

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 33. Wind chill values as low as -3. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 40. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph.
Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph after midnight.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 31.
Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 4.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 15.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 5.
