A White Jacket Pinning ceremony was recently at St. Francis Medical Center to welcome the hospital’s new medical residents. After an interfaith prayer service, the first-year medical residents were pinned with a St. Francis Dove pin as well as an American College of Physicians internal medicine pin.

The ceremony was held in the St. Francis Chapel and recognizes a resident’s white jacket as a symbol of entry into the world of medicine and a promise that its wearer makes to every patient—the promise to heal and to care. In taking the Hippocratic Oath, residents also promised absolute integrity in providing care to patients.
