Baxter's Fishing Derby Returns This Weekend

A look at some local events happening around the township this weekend.

The start of October means the return of another tradition here in Howell with the eyes of the township turning to Echo Lake Park for the annual Baxter’s Fishing Derby.

The event will be held on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. and running until the final line is reeled in at 11. Registration starts at 8:15 and the event is free to all Howell residents. Participants can be between the ages of 5 and 14 and bait will be provided. Anyone wishing to participate should bring their own rod to the lake.

If fishing is not your scene then a trip to Farmingdale might be just what you are looking for. The Borough will host its annual Farmingdale Community Festival that will include a car and truck show, music, games, food and more. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Farmingdale School Playground Project.

The Howell Public Library will host a concert at 2 p.m. on Saturday. featuring musician Paul Pugliese who will play songs with similar themes, titles or tuning. Music will include cowboy songs, patriotic songs and more.
