Cadillac, Range Rover Stolen As Thieves Enter Unlocked Howell Homes
Howell police said the thefts are a continuation of issues where thieves are tracking high-end vehicles and using any means to take them.
HOWELL, NJ — Two more high-end vehicles were stolen from the driveways of homes in Howell over the weekend, Howell Township police said.
Police received calls at 5:14 a.m. Sunday about burglaries in progress at homes on Barrister Court and Vail Lane, which are near each other, Sgt. Eric Encarnacion said.
The thieves entered the homes, one through an unlocked garage window, the other through an unlocked rear sliding door, and stole car keys and other property, Encarnacion said. They then took a gray 2024 Range Rover and a white 2022 Cadillac Escalade, he said.

There are at least three suspects, all dressed in black, who are believed to be involved in the break-ins and thefts, Encarnacion said.
The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department brought a K-9 in to try to track the suspects but they remained at large, he said.

The stolen Range Rover was later recovered in Jersey City, police there told Howell police.
Among the vehicles being targeted are Land Rovers, Mercedes, BMWs and Dodge Hellcats.
In a November 2023 post, Howell police said thieves were tracking luxury vehicles using "air tag"-style devices when they were parked at shopping or dining districts in other areas.
"Technology from car manufacturers has made it much more difficult for criminals to steal vehicles without the keys," Encarnacion said. As a result, "these organized crime groups will exploit any vulnerability in pursuit of obtaining the key fob."
"Please be aware of these trends and take precaution to ensure that doors (interior/exterior) providing access to the garage/home remain secured, in addition to where you store the key/fob for your vehicles," police said. "Please lock all doors, sliding doors, and windows. If you hear anything suspicious please call 911 ASAP."
