Car Flips On Route 9 In Howell; Police Investigating

An incident Monday in which a car struck a barrier on Route 9 North in Howell, sending one person to the hospital, is under investigation.

HOWELL, NJ — Police in Howell are investigating an incident Monday in which a car flipped over on Route 9 North, after drifting from the left lane into the highway barrier, police said.

Sgt. Peter Kuppler said a person was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. He said the accident was handled by patrol units, and did not appear to be life-threatening.

The accident happened at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday on Route 9 North near Northwoods Place, just south of the Interstate 195 intersection. The car was in the left lane and appeared to drift toward the cement barrier, going onto the base of the barrier, tipping over.

He said emergency fire personnel came to pop open the car door and the person was transported to the hospital. No further information was available on the person's condition.

He said the car was removed from the highway to clear the lanes, and that was handled with minimal impact on traffic.
