FARMINGDALE, NJ —Christmas isn't over yet in the borough of Farmingdale, nestled within the borders of Howell Township.

The Farmingdale Recreation Commission Holiday Trail is on view now through Friday night (weather permitting) behind the Farmingdale Borough Hall and the Community Center at 11 Asbury Ave. You can keep track of any weather-related closing on the Recreation Commission Facebook site.

The Holiday Trail is lit up from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. It's free to walk through and it's a close-to-home holiday treat for kids who are out of school this week. Donations are appreciated to keep this tradition going yearly, the organizers say.

Enter the parking lot at the Community Center, look to the woods and you will see the lights. The trail is half boardwalk and half padded mulch, and is double stroller friendly. Parking is located directly in front of the trail.

The organizers say the walk is only about 10 minutes, and for added fun you can bring light-up necklaces and glow sticks. Pets are not permitted.

Amanda Levers of the Recreation Commission said the trail and other special events will go into a fallow period this coming month, but more ideas are coming for next year.

Farmingdale saw monthly themed farmers markets this year with participation from area businesses, too.

Each month, the volunteer commission in this small borough in the center of much larger Howell Township went all out to present a themed market. There have been markets with fairies and flamingos in past months. In the fall, the market had a medieval theme - all creating a buzz in the downtown. Business offered their parking lots for the market and overall supported or sponsored different market event throughout the year.

And Levers passed on a "heart-felt thank you" to them all.

She plans to relax this month and read some of the 12 books she got for Christmas gifts, she said.

"I'll go into hibernation for a little while," she laughed.
