Homeowner Surprises Burglar During Howell Home Break-In: Video

A Howell Township resident says three people ran from his home after he surprised them during an early morning burglary.

HOWELL, NJ — A Howell Township homeowner chased burglars from his home as they searched his kitchen, apparently looking for the key fobs for his vehicles.

John Kabourakis shared the surveillance video from the incident that happened on Feb. 29 at his Ethan Road home.

The break-in happened at 5:31 a.m., Kabourakis said.

"Three burglars broke into my home in Howell, NJ," he said, "looking for key fobs to my vehicles."

"These types of break-ins are happening all over NJ," he added.

In the video, you can see a burglar walk into the room seen through Kabourakis's Ring surveillance system. As the burglar creeps around with a flashlight, security lights come on and the burglar runs out of the room. Kabourakis appears and issues a warning to the burglar, who was running out of the toom.

Howell Township police said the burglar ran out of the house to a vehicle parked out front, News 12 New Jersey reported.

A second home was broken into the house with at the same time, Howell said on Sunset Court, about the same time as the Ethan Drive burglary. The burglar ran away after the homeowner woke up, the report said.
