HOWELL, NJ — The 2023 organization meeting of the Howell Township Council is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 2, at 5 p.m., when the three newly elected GOP candidates will be sworn in to serve on the governing body.

The three councilmembers-elect are Susan Fischer, Fred Gasior and Ian Nadel.

The three sat in on the recent Township Council meeting on Dec. 13 in which the outgoing members of the council - Deputy Mayor Pamela Richmond and Councilwoman Suzanne Brennan, both Republicans, were given proclamations in appreciation of their service. Richmond and Brennan did not run for re-election.

Richmond, who presided over the meeting Dec. 13, introduced the three soon-to-be members, adding that she was looking forward to what they "will bring to the table in Howell."

Fischer, Gasior and Nadel will join Republican Councilwoman Evelyn O'Donnell on the council. O'Donnell won re-election to a second four-year term on the Township Council in Nov. 2020.

Mayor Theresa Berger will be the sole Democrat on the Township Council after the organization meeting. Berger was re-elected to a second four-year term as mayor in Nov. 2020. She was the first Democrat to take office in Howell in over 15 years when she was first sworn into office as mayor in January 2017.

Councilman John Bonevich, currently the other Democrat on the council along with Berger, lost his re-election bid for another term in November.

Howell Township is served by a council-manager form of government, with a directly elected mayor. The manager is appointed by the mayor and council to carry out policy.

Apart from the organization meeting, the next regularly scheduled Township Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 17, beginning at 7 p.m.
