HOWELL, NJ — Members of the Howell Senior Center enjoyed the return of their annual holiday party recently - the first party since the COVID pandemic - and it was a hit.

It was also a chance to celebrate the many activities and good causes the center was involved with in 2022.

The party was held Dec. 16 at Jack Baker’s Lobster Shanty and The Pickles Band was the entertainment that kept the seniors and staff dancing throughout the entire event, the center staff said.

"This was our first holiday party since December 2019, so everyone was excited to celebrate again," the center said in a Facebook post.

The center had a lot of spirit this season. Recently, Santa came early to the Howell Senior Center.

He visited the ceramics class and then came upstairs for all the members to visit with during the Interfaith Holiday Luncheon. The man himself was joined by Nicki, the center's "Holiday Elf".

The center also thanks the community and surrounding areas for donating leftover Halloween candy, snacks, toiletries and other items for the troops serving overseas.

The Senior Center was able to pair this program with the Veterans Day program. in which it asked for specific donations to go to the troops and had a “Cards for Troops” event.

The center has partnered with ASOM (Always Supporting Our Military), a nonprofit organization dedicated to making sure U.S. troops have the quality of life they deserve while they are away from home.

"We are so grateful ASOM has been taking all of our donations and raises the necessary funds to ship all of the packages overseas. We filled four of their vehicles with all of our donations and they will be sending everything out," the center said in a post late last month.

The center also collects donations for the troops all throughout the year.
