Life-Saving Narcan Training To Be Offered In Howell Wednesday
Howell Alliance offers training program Aug. 30 at 6 p.m., the eve of International Overdose Awareness Day Aug. 31.

HOWELL, NJ — The Howell Alliance is marking International Overdose Awareness Day not only with a display of purple flags, but also with a free Narcan use training program Wednesday.
The program is Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m. at the township municipal building on Route 9, according to the Howell Alliance. The Alliance is a township department that provides awareness and action about substance abuse.
All participants completing the training will leave with a complimentary Narcan kit.

International Overdose Awareness Day is Aug. 31, and 50 purple flags are displayed at the Howell Township Municipal Building, with each flag representing a life lost in Monmouth County to an overdose between Jan. 1 and March 31 of this year.
Two additional white flags are placed to honor all lives lost in Monmouth County to an overdose in 2022, said Christa Riddle, coordinator of the Howell Alliance.

Howell Alliance member Bob DeLeonard and Howell Police Cadets Jabri and Luke, under the leadership of Patrolman Jayme Higgins, helped the Alliance set up the memorial, she said.

There are displays of purple flags throughout the county and other events are planned to raise awareness of overdoses - as well as prevention and recovery.
