Man Hit By Car At Howell Wawa After Argument With Driver: Police
Driver turns himself in after the incident that left the pedestrian unconscious in the Wawa parking lot on Route 9 in Howell.
HOWELL, NJ — A Christmas Day argument at a local Wawa left an unidentified man injured and resulted in charges of assault by auto against a Howell resident, police said.
Alonzo Godbolt of Howell was charged in connection with the incident. Police said he and the other man, 51, engaged in a "verbal dispute" at the store early on the evening of Christmas.
Godbolt came forward and contacted the Howell police to tell them he was involved in the incident, and he was then charged with assault by auto and released on a summons, police said.

On Christmas Day, police received a 911 call at about 6 p.m. that a pedestrian was struck by an automobile in the parking lot of the Wawa convenience Store on Route 9 and Kent Road.
Howell police found a man lying unconscious in the store’s parking lot. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and would eventually regain consciousness, police said in a news release.

An investigation revealed that before the accident the victim had been involved in a verbal dispute with the driver of the vehicle outside the Wawa, police said.
According to the Howell Happenings Facebook site, the injured man was a regular at the Wawa and his family says he was still being evaluated earlier this week for brain injury at the trauma unit of Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
