Railings Mean Safer Access To Howell Senior Center: Officials
The walkway from the Howell Senior Center parking lot now has a railing for added safety. Bocce, shuffleboard options will also be studied.

HOWELL, NJ — New railings along the Senior Center walkway from the parking lot to the building will provide safer access, township officials said as they unveiled the new railings recently.
The railing project is the most recent improvement for the center, but Interim Township Manager Joe Clark said the town will explore other enhancements, such as additional recreational opportunities. This might include the installation of shuffleboard and bocce, he said.
Clark said those who use the center "deserve to see a portion of their tax money utilized in a way that enhances the center both for them and future generations of Howell seniors."

There was a ribbon cutting Friday to celebrate the new railings.
Senior Services Director Melanie Decker said the railing also leads to the patio so it helps with safety for outdoor activities, too.

She said the railing is especially helpful for those who drive to the center and need to park because it is a longer walk to access the building from the parking lot. Those who are bussed, she said, are dropped off more closely to the building.
The mission of the Howell Senior Center is to offer Howell residents 60 years of age and over, and their caregivers, programs and services that promote safety, encourage healthy living, and enhance quality of life, the township says.
Decker said there is wide variety of activities and programing at the center, which is open Mondays to Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The center's website describes the activities. The center is on Preventorium Road.
Right now the center is collecting extra Halloween candy to send to the troops through this week. Candy can be dropped off at the center or with Steven Fecher at the Township Hall, a flyer for the Senior Center said.
