Train For The Howell Community Emergency Response Team

Community classes for emergency response skills will be offered in Howell this fall, the Office of Emergency Management says.

HOWELL, NJ — The township is offering basic emergency preparedness and response classes this fall that can equip people to be part of a disaster response team, says Victor Cook, coordinator of the Howell Office of Emergency Management.

Training for CERT - Community Emergency Response Team - will begin on Sept. 18, Cook said. The classes are free of charge.

Classes will be held on Monday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Emergency Management Training Center on the second floor of the Municipal Building on Route 9.

Here is the tentative schedule:

  • Disaster Awareness: Sept. 18
  • Disaster Psychology and EOC Operation: Sept. 25
  • Med Ops Part 1; basic first aid: Oct. 2
  • Med Ops Part 2; MCI awareness: Oct. 9
  • Fire Safety: Oct. 16
  • Light Search and Rescue: Oct. 23
  • Terrorism and HAZMAT: Oct. 30

Following the initial training sessions, team members will meet once a month to maintain and advance their training, Cook said.
