The <a href="http://www.airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=airnow.main" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">United States Enivronmental Protection Agency's AIRNow Program</a> has declared Friday, Aug. 3 to be an Ozone Action Day for most of New Jersey. This means that the ozone in the atmosphere is predicted to be unhealthy for sensitive groups. The warning was also declared yesterday as well The current air quality index is 105 in Monmouth County and is expected to be 110 tomorrow. A good air quality level is within the 0-50 range, according to the U.S. Enivronmental Protection Agency (EPA). The reason for the heightened amount of ozone is due to southwest winds, sunny skies, and warmer temperatures, AIRNow indicated. Sensitive people such as, children, the elderly, and individuals who suffer from respiratory diseases like asthma are advised not to engage in arduous activity outdoors - especially for long periods of time.  The high ozone will reach unhealthy levels for senstive groups namely in the afternoon and early evening hours. AIRNow is also asking residents and businesses to restrict any activity that would contribute to air pollution today and tomorrow. This includes, but is not limited to, driving a car, mowing the lawn, painting, and burning wood.
