Weekend Flooding Damages Basement Of House In Howell
Southern Howell saw over 6 inches of rainfall this weekend, but only one house on White Street had bad flooding, township says.

HOWELL, NJ — After a weekend of significant rainfall, Howell emergency management officials said the town only saw one home badly flooded - and it came as a shock to the homeowner who said his property usually never floods.
Victor Cook, head of the Office of Emergency Management, said a house on White Street flooded to the point where the power had to be cut off because water filled the basement to the first floor.
The area was off Route 9, near the Wawa and the Howell Animal Hospital, and is not prone to flooding, Cook said.

"The owner had not seen that much water on his property," Cook said.
The Office of Emergency Management and Freewood Acres Fire Company responded and assisted the homeowner.

The oil tank was also turned off as a precaution, Cook said.
Howell, which at 61 square miles is the largest in area township in Monmouth County, saw a range of rainfalls from the weekend, according to a National Weather Service update Monday morning.
But southern Howell saw the most rain, with a total since Friday morning of 6.23 inches, the weather service reported. Other areas received a range of about 4 inches to 5 inches.
And showers in the area seem likely to return on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the weather service forecast.
