Aggravated Assault, Drunk Driving: Jefferson Police Blotter

Jefferson police made several arrests between Sept. 15 and Oct. 8.

JEFFERSON, NJ β€” Jefferson Township Police made several arrests between Sept. 15 and Oct. 8, including for drunk driving, aggravated assault, and more. Read about those arrests, as written by police, here:

9/15/2018: After receiving numerous complaints on an erratic driver on Route 15 North and Minnisink Road, P.O. Romash located the vehicle on Rockawack Ave. Melanie Hafdelin was still inside the vehicle covered in vomit. It was determined she was intoxicated. She refused to provide samples of her breath and was issued appropriate summons. Court Date is pending.

09/19/18: Paskas/Ondish: Timothy Ayers, 40, of Jefferson Township struck another vehicle at the intersection of 15 South and Berkshire Valley Road, causing the other vehicle to strike the sign at the Woroco Gas Station. Mr. Ayers appeared to be under the influence and further investigation revealed heroin found in his vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to St. Clares Dover for minor injuries. Mr. Ayers was arrested and processed at Jefferson Township Police Headquarters. Mr. Ayers was charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of CDS, Driving While Intoxicated and multiple Motor Vehicle Offenses. Mr. Ayers was released on a summons, ROR and transported to hospital for a minor injury. Court Date is pending.

9/22/2018: Jason Bottani, 32, of Pompton Lakes, crashed his vehicle on Berkshire Valley Road. Subsequent investigation determined Mr. Bottani was operating his motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Processed and released, pending a future court date.

9/23/2018: Gerardo Vera, 36, of East Orange, was arrested following a motor vehicle stop on Berkshire Valley Road. Mr. Vera, was found to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs. He was processed and released, pending a future court date.

09/24/18: Matthew Tarant, 40 of Newton, was stopped after making an illegal turn through the parking lot of Mountain Tire to avoid a traffic signal en route to Club 15. Mr. Tarant was placed under arrest, processed and released on a summons, pending a future court date.

09/25/18: A man, was observed vomiting by his vehicle at the Quick Chek on Route 15. Upon further investigation the man was under the influence of CDS. He was arrested for Possession of CDS, DWI and Driving While Suspended. The man was processed and released, pending a future court date.

09/26/18: Robert Hobbs, 41, of Sparta, was stopped for speeding on Rt. 15 South. He drove into the parking lot of the Weichert Realtor, jumped out of the vehicle and began running away. Officer Ondish’s cat like reflexes caught up with him and arrested him on the side of the building. Mr. Hobbs was issued the
following Summons:

  • 39:4-88B Failure to maintain lane
  • 13:20-26.11 Failure to inspect
  • 39:3-10.24 Refusal to submit to Breathalyzer
  • 39:4-50.4A Refusal to submit to chemical test
  • 39:3-40 Suspended DL
  • 39:3-29 Fail to Possess Driver’s License
  • 39:3-29 Fail to Possess Drivers Insurance Card
  • 39:3-29 Fail to Possess Drivers Registration
  • 39:4-51A.B Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage
  • 39:4-96 Reckless Driving

Mr. Hobbs was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility, pending a future
court date.

10/8/18: William Youells, 51, of Glenwood, crashed his motorcycle at the intersection of Deerhaven and Greenpond Road. He was transported to the hospital and issued:

  • 39:4-50 Driving While Intoxicated
  • 39:4-96 Reckless Driving
  • 39:4-97 Careless Driving
  • 39:4-88 Failure to Maintain Lane
