Biker Hits, Kills Bear Cub On Morris County Roadway: Cops

Hamburg man hospitalized with moderate injuries, police report.

JEFFERSON, N.J. – A man riding his motorcycle in Jefferson was hospitalized after striking a bear in the roadway, killing the animal, Deputy Chief Eric Wilsusen said.

Police responded to Route 15 south about 7 p.m. Wednesday night for a report of a motorcycle striking a bear. When they arrived, they found Sean McBride, 21, of Hamburg, had struck a bear cub in the roadway with his motorcycle, Wilsusen said.

The bear darted into the roadway, Wilsusen said, and it's not yet known if the crash could have been avoided.

McBride suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Morristown Medical Center by ambulance. The bear cub died as a result of the incident.

There were no charges as a result of the incident.
