Blood Drive Video Draws Award Nomination
JTHS senior's video nominated for best on-air talent by MSG Varsity.

While broadcasting the news in high school is often seen as gossiping, that’s not the case for Breeanna Tedford. The senior broadcasts the morning announcements every morning in what is set up to look like a genuine broadcasting booth. Tedford also videos pieces on happenings around the school. Now one of those pieces may win her an award.
Tedford was nominated for an MSG Varsity V Award in the category of Best On-Air Talent, for a piece she did on a blood drive held at the school. While she did not win the award, Tedford’s piece was one of five nominated from more than 3,600 submitted, according to MSG Varsity.
“We’d gotten an assignment in class to do a human interest piece,” Tedford said. “It was around the time of a blood drive at school. I thought it would make a good human interest piece, and I was also applying to colleges at the same time, so I thought I could use it as part of my portfolio.”

Her human interest piece was part of what got Tedford admitted into the broadcasting program at Montclair State University, where she will start in the fall. She hopes that will be the start of a career in issues-related news.
“I want to work on current issues, groundbreaking stuff,” she said. “I want to be on air. I just love being in front of the camera.”

Tedford’s other hobbies include anything having to do with drama and writing. She performs in the fall drama at school each year, is editor of the school’s literature magazine and president of the French club.
