County Part-Time Public Safety Position Will Be Advertised, Say Freeholders

Parsippany Town Council member Paul Carifi Jr. recently was the front runner for a part-time job as an assistant range master at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy, but now he will have to apply for the position along with other hopefuls. The county's Select Board of Freeholders announced that it will advertise the job publicly instead, the Daily Record reported.

In December, Freeholder Director Thomas Mastrangelo and Freeholder William "Hank" Levy gave their okays to hiring Carifi to fill the role of "technical analyst," however Freeholder Douglas Cabana, the board's liaison to the Morris County Department of Law and Public Safety, said he wanted the job advertised and that there was no immediate rush to fill the position. Ultimately, his colleagues collectively agreed to release an ad soliciting applicants for the job.

The decision, the board said, was made to ensure consistency in hiring and was not a judgment against former front runner Carifi, an experienced weapons instructor who could still win the job via the designated county hiring process.
