Guns, Drugs, Cash Seized After NJ Dealer Tries To Take Cop’s Rifle: PO

Police said that John B. Scavone had been dealing cocaine in Morris County since July.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Morris County man was arrested last week after police found several guns, pounds of drugs, and thousands in drug money in his home, prosecutors said.

John B. Scavone, 32, of Jefferson, was arrested on Friday after police executed a search warrant of his home, finding five illegal guns, a kilogram of cocaine, and more than $10,000 in cash.

On Friday morning, police found Scavone in his bedroom, which was fortified with a steel door, authorities said.

As they attempted to arrest him, Scavone struggled with the police, attempting to take one of the officers’ rifles, officials said. Authorities were able to “de-escalate the situation without serious injury” and placed him under arrest.

A search of the house found Scavone to own five firearms, two of which were stolen, including a pistol that was modified to have fully-automatic capabilities, police said.

Police also found a crossbow, high-capacity magazines, and armor-piercing ammunition in Scavone’s home, according to authorities.

Further investigation led to police finding roughly 2.2 pounds of cocaine, paraphernalia indicative of drug dealing, and almost $11,000 in suspected drug money, prosecutors said.

Police believe that Scavone had been selling cocaine in Morris County since at least July.

Scavone was issued a slew of charges, including possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of an assault firearm, and disarming a law enforcement officer.

Scavone is being held in the Morris County Correctional Facility to await court proceedings.
