Happy Earth Day to All

Take care of the earth today, and start right here in town.

Happy Earth Day to all. While we talked about Earth Day last week, it's not something we should think about on only one day. We can and should do it every day. And we can start right here inΒ Jefferson Township. Here are five things you need to know to help keep Jefferson Township clean and beautiful:

  1. You Need to Know About Recycling: The township picks up comingled recyclables, including glass, metal and plastic food and beverage containers. The town also collects newspapers, magazines and cardboard. These two groups are collected on alternate Wednesdays. See the town web site for more information.
  2. You Need to Know About E-Waste: The township now accepts e-waste, including computers, monitors, fax machines and other electronics, at the recycling center on Weldon Road on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  3. You Need to Know About Tires:Β You can drop off passenger tires at the recycling center. There is a nominal fee for this service. Check the web site for more information.
  4. You Need to Know About Vegetative Waste:Β Collection of vegetative waste began for the season on April 6. The town collects grass clippings and leaves in brown paper sacks, and accepts tree branches, twigs and shrubs at the recycling center.
  5. You Need to Know About Hazardous Waste: Motor oil and other hazardous waste must be taken to the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority by appointment.

And a bonus:

You Need to Know About Bulk Waste: The township collects furniture, mattresses and other bulk waste on the second trash collection day of each week. Appliances and metal items can be picked up at curbside by appointment.
