How Do You Settle Family Disputes?

It's Monday night, and for once, the whole family is home and you can all sit around and watch t.v. together. One person suggests a show, and someone else doesn't want to watch it. Suddenly, a peaceful family evening turns into a dispute over what to watch on t.v.

You're going out to dinner as a family. But each person has his or her own suggestion for where to go, and none of them match.
