Jefferson High VP Remains With District Until State Approves Settlement

While the and vice principal Gregory Currie have reached a , Currie will be an employee of the district for at least the next several weeks, according to superintendent Joseph Kraemer.

“Mr. Currie is still technically in our employ until the Commissioner of Education approves the settlement agreement,” Kraemer said. “According to our attorney, the settlement agreement will first have to go before the court, and then be presented to the state for approval.”

Currie is not allowed to have any contact with staff or students on a professional level, only in his role as a father to two children in the district.

At the time of his suspension, Currie’s annual salary was $115,346, according to Data Universe.

Kraemer expects that it will take until at least November for the agreement to be approved, simply due to “the sheer volume of paperwork on the Commissioner’s desk,” he said.

In the meantime, Noreen Risko will remain in place as the interim vice principal at the high school, at a cost to the district of $450 per day. Risko was brought in after Currie’s suspension in February 2011.

Once the state approves the settlement agreement and Currie’s employment ends, the district will begin the process of searching for a new vice principal.
