Morris County Chooses Steve Lonegan Over Cory Booker
The Republican and Tea Party favorite won in Jefferson Township by about 18 points.

Republican candidate and Tea Party favorite Steve LoneganΒ came up short against Democrat Cory BookerΒ in the special statewideΒ race to win the right to fill the unexpired term of the late U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg. But Lonegan can comfort himself with the knowledge that he limited Booker's statewide winΒ to about 11 percentage points. And he won handily inΒ Morris County and in Jefferson Township.
Across the county, Lonegan garnered aboutΒ 57 percent of the vote to Booker'sΒ 43Β percent, according toΒ unofficial results released late Wednesday nightΒ by the Morris County Clerk's Office. In raw numbers so far,Β Lonegan defeated Booker in Morris,Β 51,882 toΒ 38,912.
In Jefferson Township,Β Lonegan defeated his Democratic rivalΒ 2,348 toΒ 1,319, orΒ 63.25 percent toΒ 35.53 percentΒ in the unofficial count. Β
In the township,Β county clerk totals show that 27.12 percent of registered voters ventured out to cast a ballot.
As of midnight Thursday, unofficial results show Lonegan wins also in Monmouth and Sussex counties.
