New Equipment, Road and Drain Improvements Coming to Jefferson

Bond ordinance approved for a multitude of projects.

Roads and drainage systems throughout Jefferson Township will be repaired, and fire fighters, the recreation department and DPW will get new equipment under a bond ordinance that the Jefferson Township council approved at its meeting on Wednesday night.

The appropriation is for $2,889,000, with a bond of $2,753,000 authorized. In addition, a grant of $490,000 was appropriated for these projects.

The projects include the following:

Purchase of new and additional equipment, including timekeeping equipment for administration department use, snow removal equipment and a fuel dispensing system for the DPW, lawn mowers for the recreation department and fire fighting and rescue equipment, including turn-out gear, fire hoses, utility bed lockers and self-contained breathing apparatus.

Installation of a bullet trap system at the police firing range.

Road resurfacing and reconstruction on Stuart lane, Field Court, Overhill Terrace, Pembroke Court, Lyons Road, Homestead Road, Michael Road, Hoover Road, Ress Road, Kentucky Road, Willow Road, Evergreen Road, Edgewood Road, Topaz Lane, Cozy Lake Road, Dover Milton Road, Russia Road and Holland Mountain Road.

Reconstruction of drainage facilities along portions of various roads, including Alabama Avenue, Ludlow Road, Stonybrook Lane, Moonlight Drive, Mitchell Road, Spring Road, Fredericks Road and Rudmar Road.

Purchase and installation of new and additional communications equipment for use by various township departments.

Purchase of new vehicles, including one vactor truck and one street sweeper for the DPW and one utility vehicle for the police department, and reconditioning a fire engine for the fire department use.

Improvements to Drummond School for use as a joint administrative, community and recreational facility by the township and the board of education, including installation of new windows, upgrading of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, renovation of offices and bathrooms and construction of handicapped access facilities.

Jefferson Township business administrator Jim Leach also announced that pothole repair is approximately 80% complete throughout the township.

“Weather permitting, we should be completely finished filling potholes within the next two weeks,” he said.

Finally, Leach announced that the township has received a grant enabling the acquisition of another Dial-A-Ride bus, which should be in the township’s possession by mid-2012.

“I’ve gotten several compliments lately on our Dial-A-Ride service,” councilman Jay Dunham said.
