OEM Chief: 'Positive Response' To Alert System

In just over three months, has 1,404 enrolled users, with 100 of them coming after Jefferson Mayor Russell Felter touted the system in his newsletter to the township.

According to Bill Craig, head of Jefferson’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and deputy chief of police, since the system’s inception in March, four emergency phone calls and notice have gone out. These include road closings, road reopenings, and traffic and pedestrian cautions due to special events in town.

In addition, 10 special event notices have been sent out via email. They include notice of a 5K run, road paving, hydrant flushing, drug disposal day and the DOT open house for the Weldon Road bridge replacement.

Craig said the new system has gotten “a positive response.”

The Honeywell Alert system is free to residents, but requires registration, which can be reached by clicking here. Residents without a computer may call town hall at 973-697-1500 for help in setting up their account.
