With 64 drug-related arrests in 2011, and 22 to date this year, substance abuse is something that Jeffersonβs schools, police department and business leaders see as a problem in town. And itβs something that all of these groups are trying to combat.
For example, β Businesses place stickers reading βNot Hereβ in their windows, and will receive awareness training to combat deals taking place in their parking lots.
The school district has just voted in a policy of at the high school. The program will begin in September.

βWe have worked to curtail the problem through our education and prevention programs, through our work with the schools and with the Municipal Alliance Committee,β said Jefferson Police Captain Eric Wilsusen. βI think drugs are a problem here in town, but I think weβve done a lot to cut back on the problem, and weβre continuing to work on it every day.β
