Jefferson Crime Down More Than 50%, State Police Report Shows

New Jersey State Police report that in the first nine months of 2013, overall crime in Jefferson Township fell by 51.4 percent compared to the same time period last year. The numbers come from the most recent New Jersey State Police's uniform crime report, released Oct. 11, which showcases crime statistics from municipalities across New Jersey.

Total crimes reported in the borough from January to September 2013 were 104 incidents, compared to 214 in the first nine months of last year.  

The township saw 100 percent declines in a number of categories in which no crimes occurred between January and September of 2013. According to the report, that includes aggravated assaults (one last year), assaults with knives or guns (3 in 2012) and motor vehicle theft (four last year).  Burglaries were down 73 percent and larcenies decreased by 37.6 percent.

In fact, according to the uniform crime report, Jefferson Township fell in every category of crime during the first nine months of 2013.  

In all, the report says that violent crime in the municipality fell 80 percent, while nonviolent crime dropped by 52.9 between January and September of this year.
