The victim told police he was traveling south on Route 9 when a black Mazda with tinted windows struck his vehicle on the rear passenger side as the Mazda pulled out of the parking lot. The victim told police that the Mazda fled the scene and headed south on Route9, the chief said.

Roughly two and a half hours later, Officers Scott Anderson and Michael Baldasari responded to the 1000 block of Anchor Way in Forked River on a theft report. The caller, Lisa M. Baker, 45, Anchor Way, told police someone had recently stolen the front license plate off her 2005 black Mazda 3, DiBella said.

The missing license plate was located at the scene of the hit and run motor vehicle crash that occurred earlier. Police determined that Baker was involved in the crash andmade a false police report when she reported that her front license plate was stolen, the chief said.

Baker was taken to police headquarters, where she was also charged with making a false report to police, failure to yield right of way, failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident and tinted windows, DiBella said.
