Ocean County Hidden Gems: Eno's Pond County Park
At the end of Lacey Road you'll find this beautiful haven for waterfowl, with swans, ducks, herons and if you're lucky, an osprey.
LACEY, NJ — On a sunny spring day, you may find yourself with the urge to go outside and explore. Next time that desire hits, you should take a trip all the way down Lacey Road and find yourself at Eno's Pond County Park, one of the county's hidden gems.
Patch is highlighting parks, restaurants and more that deserve more recognition throughout Ocean County. Eno's Pond is one of them.
Once the site of a grand hotel and casino, this 28-acre tract of land now serves as a refuge for a variety of flora and fauna, including plenty of waterfowl. Though that hotel burned down in the 1950s, the casino still stands - it is the Captain's Inn.

This is a great park for all ages. When you first arrive, you'll see a playground and small field, perfect for playing with kids and dogs. And - very important to some - actual restrooms (no porta-potties to be found here). There's a small picnic area, too, so you can bring your lunch.
The half-mile trail is handicapped accessible, so wheelchair users (or bikes, or strollers) can come along for the walk. Another, slightly longer, trail connects the park to the Edwin B. Forsythe Wildlife Refuge, though it is not as well-maintained as the county park.

The highlight of this park is the deck overlooking the pond, that once served as a source of ice for the property's hotel. Now, it is a haven for waterfowl.
Swans, wood ducks, mallards, great blue herons and more can be watched from the observation deck, with benches if you need a rest. If you're lucky, you may even spot an osprey.
So, if you're looking for a nice way to pass a spring day, check out Eno's Pond County Park. There's plenty for everyone to enjoy.
