No One Injured In Early Morning Lacey Blaze That Badly Damaged Home, Police Say

The blaze started near the deck, spread to the southeast corner of the Merrimac Road home and eventually the roof.

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - A Merrimac Road home was significantly damaged in an early morning fire Tuesday, but no serious injuries were reported, Sgt. Ronald Buxton said.

Officers from Lacey Township Police Department were responded to 305 Merrimac Rd at 1:04 a.m. in Forked River for a deck fire. Officers Patrick Watkins and Andrew Slota discovered heavy smoke coming from the rear southeast corner of the home behind the garage. The deck, along with a portion of the residence was smoldering, he said.

It soon became apparent that fire had already traveled through the soffit and into the attic, and eventually spread to the roof. All three adult members of the home were able to get out and were unharmed. Two Lanoka Harbor firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries by the Lanoka Harbor EMS, Buxton said.
