UPDATE: Emaciated Dog Found Tied To Tree In Remote Woods Has Been Reunited With His Owners

"Thor" is still recovering from his ordeal.

It was a nightmare scenario.

A young dog spent hot days and dark nights alone deep in the Lacey woods, tied so tightly to a tree the rope had to be cut off. He had no food or water.

Thor has since been reunited with his Jackson owners. They reported him missing on Sept. 17 to animal control and a shelter, according to an update posted by Matt Geissinger on the Lost Dogs in Ocean County Facebook page.

Salvation for "Thor," - a 3.5 year old mixed breed - came in the form of a hunter - who found him in the woods after he heard a noise several days ago. He cleaned the dog up and fed him before taking to the Ocean County Animal Shelter in Manahawkin.

"Thankfully, he was found when he was because he would not have survived much longer and would have been defenseless being attacked from other animals," according to a Facebook post on A-Academy Animal Control Lost And Found Pets Ocean County NJ.

"It's not known how he got into the woods in Lacey or how long he was there for, but we are hoping that again someone can help with information," the post states. "Thor has been sick and has been back and forth to the vet so the owners were able to provide plenty of vet records when reclaiming him from the shelter."

Anyone with information about how Thor ended up tied to a tree and who was involved should call A-Academy Animal Control at (800) 624-1709.
