People will never forget Former Oceanport Mayor Maria Gatta after a memorial was placed in the park that bears her name.
A rock with an inscribed plaque was placed at the Port Au Peck Avenue entrance to the park as the Gatta family and Oceanport officials applauded.
"It's an important remembrance of an important member of our community," Oceanport Mayor Michael Mahon said.
The park was named after Gatta after she succesfully was able to negotiate the purchase of the property from Monmouth Park.
The borough had planned to place the memorial sooner, but the original plaque was lost after Hurricane Sandy badly flooded yhe building it was being held, Oceanport Borough Hall.
