Oceanport Fire May Have Started From Insulation Being Put On Roof: Report
The building that caught fire in Oceanport Monday was going to be a waterfront restaurant; it is part of the new RiverWalk.
OCEANPORT, NJ — The building that caught fire in Oceanport Monday was going to be a waterfront restaurant that is part of RiverWalk Center, the new shopping/business complex that is currently being built at 1000 Oceanport Avenue, along Parkers Creek.
The fire broke out around 3 p.m. Monday.
Dozens of firefighters from around the area rushed to the scene. There were no injures, but one firefighter had to be treated on the scene for heat exhaustion.

Oceanport Mayor Tom Tvrdik told the Asbury Park Press the fire appears to have started on the roof, where workers were installing insulation.
"On Monday, August 25, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the Oceanport Fire Department responded to a fire at a commercial property under construction. Through the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies, the fire was brought under control in roughly one hour," said the Oceanport Fire Department on their Facebook page.

RiverWalk Center is a new $25 million development being built along the creek. It is being built at the Oceanport entrance to the former Fort Monmouth site, which is where Netflix is building its new North American studio headquarters.
Once complete, RiverWalk will have retail shopping and co-working office space along a waterfront promenade. According to the RiverWalk website, they are currently seeking tenants.
