Oceanport Leaf Collection Schedule Changed

Oceanport has revised its leaf collection schedule so residents have more chances to have the fruits of their raking efforts removed from their properties.

The pickup week now starts on Wednesday and leaves can be placed at the curb as early as the Saturday before the Wednesday start but no later than the Sunday after. This will give residents two weekends to get leaves out to the curb.

Oceanport is asking residents who have their property serviced by someone other than themselves, to make sure that they have been registered with the borough so a copy of the schedule is mailed to all registered landscapers.

The borough has set the following guidelines for leaf collection:

• Leaves only should be placed at the curb and should be free of branches, stones, hay, and any other debris.  Any piles that contain such debris will be left behind and residents will receive a notice.

• Residents are asked to keep piles straight, neat, and in the street as close to the curb as possible. Piles should be any larger than four feet wide and four feet high and should block the road.

• Leaf piles should not be placed on top of storm drains, because it could impede proper storm water runoff and create flooding in the roadways.

• Residents who live on a corner lot should try to place piles on the street that has less traffic.

• The Oceanport Public Works Department does not pick up branches or sticks. In order for them to be picked up by garbage collection they must be tied and bundled and should not to exceed five feet long by three feet in diameter piles.
