City Historian to Launch Essex County Lecture Series on Tuesday
Dr. Clement Price of Rutgers-Newark will launch this year's Presidential Lecture Series at Essex County College on Sept. 23.

Rutgers-Newark Distinguished Service Professor Dr. Clement A. Price helps launch the 2014-2015 Presidential Lecture Series at Essex County College on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
The City of Newark’s Historian Dr. Price will talk on “Newark’s Long and Complicated History,” starting at 11:30 a.m., in Essex’s J. Harry Smith Hall, 303 University Avenue in Newark.
The program is free and open to the public.

Dr. Price received an honorary degree from Essex County College at the College’s 2014 Commencement. Although a longtime professor at Rutgers-Newark, Dr. Price was part of the first faculty at Essex County College in 1968-69. “Essex County College is an important part of Newark’s history and a major contributor to the city,” he said.
In addition to his teaching and work as the city historian, Dr. Price serves on President Obama’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. He has been published widely and has written books on Afro-American History, race relations and modern culture in New Jersey and the nation. Dr. Price is also a trustee of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Chair Emeritus of the Newark Trust for Education and serves on the Save Ellis Island Foundation.

The Presidential Lecture Series was created by Essex President Dr. Gale E. Gibson. This is the first of several free lectures to be held over the next few months at the College.
