Essex County Woman Wins $1 Million In New Jersey Lottery

A local grammar school cafeteria worker claimed the winning ticket on her birthday.

A Verona resident struck gold this holiday season, winning $1 million in the New Jersey “Holiday Gold” jackpot.

Carolyn D., of Verona, claimed the million-dollar prize on her birthday, a rep from the New Jersey lottery stated in a release. The grammar school cafeteria worker purchased the winning ticket on her deceased father’s birthday.

“I’ve been playing for 30 years, since I was 18,” the Verona resident stated. Carolyn chose to receive her winnings as an annuity prize so that she will have some financial security in her retirement.
