Helicopter Mosquito Spraying In 5 Essex County Towns On Tuesday
Heavy rains have caused the mosquito count to rise. Spraying will take place in Fairfield, West Caldwell, Roseland, Millburn and Livingston.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Mosquito spraying will take place via helicopter on Tuesday in five Essex County towns along the Passaic River: Fairfield, West Caldwell, Roseland, Millburn and Livingston.
Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. released a statement with operational details and the reason for the spraying:
“The heavy rainstorms that we have received recently have caused our mosquito counts to go up. On Tuesday, May 20, we will partner with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection to conduct an aerial control operation. Residents will see a low flying helicopter from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting. Areas along the Passaic River in Fairfield, West Caldwell, Roseland, Millburn and Livingston will be treated with a granular BTI. This is a natural substance that is harmless to humans and animals.”
For more information, call the county’s mosquito control hotline at 973-239-3366, ext. 2480 or the Public Works Department at 973-226-8500, ext. 3001.
