Klein "lived a very happy and fulfilling life," his obit says. He was born in Newark in 1920, one of 10 children. He worked in Edison Laboratories in West Orange and then joined the Navy during World War II as an aviation electrician, serving on several aircraft carriers.
Klein and wife Doris Smith raised three sons in Livingston. He moved to Roseland in 2002.
According to his obit, he was active in several Livingston Clubs including the Livingston Old Guard, Livingston AARP, and the local chours. He volunteered at St. Barnabas and ran senior trips.
"But his greatest contribution was his ability to make people laugh with a variety of jokes and true stories," the obit says. "In retirement, he became somewhat of an amateur comedian, doing standup routines whenever anyone would listen…and delighting most audiences. He was a kind and gentle man, and had compassion for all people. He loved being with and talking to people. Mostly, he was very special."
