Livingston Band The Stiff Joints Performs Saturday in Caldwell
Livingston's 'Premiere Rock and Roll Band' enjoys tongue-in-cheek attitude.

When the Livingston-based band The Stiff Joints were looking for a way to promote their performances, they decided to use a tongue-in-cheek approach.
“You know, it’s funny,” says David Zayalet, a Hillside Elementary parent and frontman for Livingston’s own rock and roll band.
“We started out promoting ourselves as ‘Livingston’s Premiere Rock and Roll Band,’” Zayalet said, “kind of as a joke, figuring that there were no other rock and roll bands in Livingston.”
“And then you go around and meet people who are all, ‘Oh, I’m in a band or my husband is in a band and were playing down at Margaritas’ or somewhere and you realize just how interesting living in this town of Livingston right now actually is,” he added.
“The first time we did this,” said drummer Rich Mair, “we were in awe by the number of people who came out and supported us. And then by the second time, we felt that we owed something back in the way of a show and we allegedly went over the top and delivered.
Tomorrow night at 9, the band will perform at the Ringside Pub in Caldwell.
“I think that the point that we are trying to make,” said guitarist Andy Spielman, “is that we are all in this together, and it is important that our kids see that here in Livingston, New Jersey of all places, that we do know how to live life and learn and grow as adults and not take ourselves too seriously all of the time.”
“Book a sitter for Saturday, March 3,” said guitarist Justin Alpert. “Go out to an early dinner with a few of your good friends, then come out and have a drink with us and all of our mutual friends and let’s have a party celebrating the twists and turns of this crazy life that we lead trying to raise intelligent and moral children in this little world, together, eighteen miles due west of Columbus Circle.”
The Ringside Pub is located at 379 Bloomfield Ave., Caldwell.
