LIVINGSTON, NJ — A combination of an ugly storm and a water main break hit Livingston on Thursday.

A state of emergency has been declared across New Jersey ahead of strong storms that may cause flash flooding. Rainfall totals of one to three inches are generally expected, with localized amounts of five to seven inches possible.

Township offices in Livingston were closed due to the state of emergency, which went into effect at 2 p.m. Offices will reopen on Friday, Aug. 1 during regular business hours.

Meanwhile, a water main break was reported at Rumson Road and Endor Way. Emergency repairs are underway, but service disruptions or discolored water may occur. Traffic delays are also possible, a township advisory states.

“If you see any air or discoloration in your water, run the cold water faucet at the sink closest to your water meter until the water is clear,” the advisory continues.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” officials stated. “Thank you for your understanding.”
