Starting January 14, the Long Branch Public Library is hosting a free six week program called WISE -- Wellness Initiative for Senior Education. This fun, interactive program is presented by Family &amp; Children’s Service and focuses on the unique needs of seniors. Light refreshments are provided and giveaways offered at each lesson.
WISE covers the aging process, managing medication use, depression, alcohol abuse, and coping with stress. The goal of WISE is to foster an enhanced quality of life for participants. Also addressed are:

SCAN to Host “Winterlude” Community Cocktail &amp; Networking Event in Monmouth Beach on January 15
MONMOUTH BEACH, NJ – The Senior Citizens Activities Network (SCAN), a New Jersey-based nonprofit serving adults age 55 and older since 1988, will host Winterlude, a winter social, networking, and fundraising event on Thursday, January 15, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Church of the Precious Blood Parish Center, located at 72 Riverdale Avenue, Monmouth Beach.
The Event is sponsored by Mark Vigianni Keller Williams CNJ Real Estate and by Stillwell-Hansen Corporation. Other sponsors include Home Helpers of Monmouth County, Garden State Trust Company, Garden Savings, FCU, CompleteCare,
Imperial Healthcare, Comfort Keepers, We Care Adult Care, Adrienne and Michael Nittolo, SAVEGREEN Energy Project, Veteran Care Services and Encompass Health. e
Winterlude is open to the public ages 21 and over and is designed as a relaxed winter gathering that brings together community members, local supporters, and friends of SCAN while raising funds to support the organization’s mission of combating social isolation among older adults in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
Attendees will enjoy live music, featuring two sets of Texas swing by Jet Weston and his Cocktail Cowboys, along with beer, wine, and soft drinks, and catering by Tramonto's of Ocean Township, winner of the 2025 Jersey Shore Pizza Wars.
“Winterlude is a great opportunity for people to come together during the winter months, enjoy great music and food, and support programs that help keep older adults active, connected, and engaged,” said Mike Ciavolino, Executive Director of SCAN. “It’s a fun, welcoming event that reflects the spirit of community that SCAN is all about.”
Tickets are $25 per person, with all food, beverages, and entertainment included. Proceeds from the event will support SCAN’s wide range of educational, wellness, and social programs for older adults throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Kim Ciccone is a domestic violence advocate and community care liaison who uses her lived experience with domestic violence, mental health challenges, and substance use to bring awareness, compassion, and hope to others. Her story reflects the deep connections between trauma and the ways people cope, as well as the strength it takes to rebuild. By transforming her pain into something bigger.
Kim now speaks to empower individuals and families, reduce stigma, and remind others that healing is possible and that something beautiful can grow from even the hardest experiences.

A night dedicated to our military veterans who heeded their country’s call to arms and went to war from Vietnam to the current day war on global terror. In too many instances they came home to a country that didn’t care about their service and a world that didn’t want to hear about their experiences. Their post war stories and struggles were often forgotten or marginalized. It is time to shine a light on their strength, resilience, and grit. Finally, to honor all veterans, prisoners of war, the missing in action, and their families who have sacrificed so much – we see you and we thank you.
The idea for Dogs2DogTags (D2DT) came to Torre Willadsen when he was deployed as a civilian contractor working with military dogs in 2012. During his time with the 7th Marines, he developed close bonds with both dogs and dog handlers. Torre saw firsthand the profound effect a dog could have on a wounded man’s frame of mind during a difficult time. D2DT rescues, trains, and places dogs with deserving service members who have been diagnosed with post-combat stress and anxiety. The purpose is to provide the veteran with a free, trained dog that can help them cope with their unique challenges in everyday life.
Unlike the heroes welcome during World War II, warriors of Vietnam to modern day came home in the shadows. Their post war experiece left many feeling alone and isolated, especially for those who's wounds are not visible. Likewise, approximately 3.3 million dogs are entered into animal shelters each year, with an average of 400,000 of them ending up being euthanized. Since 2023 euthanasia has been on the rise due to shelter over crowding, lower adoption rates, and the long term effects of suspended spay and neuter efforts during the pandemic. This Gala hopes to save two souls at once. It is time for the forgotten to be remembered.
All proceeds from the event go directly to the charitable nonprofit organization D2DT, supporting their mission to rescue both our warriors and man's best friend. #D2DT
