Corrections Officer Pleads Guilty To Shoplifting

Suzanne Simone must pay back over $1,300 in stolen goods to a local Target and Home Depot as part of her plea deal.

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – A Monmouth County corrections officer pled guilty Monday to shoplifting in Ocean Township and West Long Branch, announced Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey.

Suzanne Simone, 53, of Ocean Township, a 22-year-veteran of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, pled guilty to a fourth-degree shoplifting charge in connection with multiple instances where she failed to pay for items at a home improvement store in West Long Branch.

Simone’s plea deal calls for her to pay restitution to both stores in a total amount of $1,320.90 and must also forfeit public employment in New Jersey. As per the deal, Simone will receive non-custodial probation and cannot return to the store.

This plea deal follows an investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, revealing that Simone “skip scanned” items on multiple occasions. In various instances, Simone was wearing her uniform while committing the theft. Some of the stolen goods were later recovered from her residence.

Simone is currently suspended from her Monmouth County Correctional Institution position and is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 24 at 9:00 a.m.
