COVID-19 Unit Nurse At Monmouth Medical Honored For Her Work
Yve Massre was honored by the DAISY Foundation for her work making patients in the COVID-19 unit feel more comfortable.

LONG BRANCH, NJ – Yve Massre, BSN, RN-BC, a bedside nurse who works on Monmouth Medical Center’s Greenwall 5 inpatient unit, the hospital’s first COVID-19-designated unit, was recently honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses from the DAISY.
Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation was formed by the family of Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease. His widow, Tena, established the Foundation and the DAISY Recognition Program to honor the super-human work nurses do every day at the bedside.
Her colleagues praise Massre as a natural leader and a “bright light amidst the darkness of the pandemic.”

According to co-workers, Massre notices the basic human connection rooted in sight and how the pandemic’s necessary PPE robbed patients of that experience. Massre decided to solve this by bringing in a picture of herself when she visited patients so that her patients could see her face. While a simple gesture, the act provided the patients comfort.
“Yve always makes others feel exceptional,” said Regional Chief Nursing Officer Diann Johnston, MSN, RN, NEA-BC.

“A DAISY Nurse is a very special nurse —it is about more than just being recognized for a good deed or for being nice. A DAISY Nurse operates on a different level, day in and day out, and Yve exemplifies this level of nursing; she is undeniably a nurse of true character and kindness.”
