EATONTOWN, NJ – Eatontown Councilwoman Jasmine Story and Dee Slattery have announced their candidacies for the two seats on the Eatontown Council in the upcoming general election on Nov 2.

Slattery has never served on the council, and Story is currently serving her third year. Although she ran on the Democratic ticket in 2018, Story is running for re-election as an independent with Slattery against Republicans David Gindi and Everett Lucas will compete against Democrats Mariel Hufnagel and Coleen Burnett.

“For the past three years, I’ve sought to close loopholes exploited by both parties. I’ve fought for smarter spending. I’ve fought for homeowners and apartment dwellers alike. I am running because I want to continue to be a voice for residents,” Story said in a press release.

“I don’t vote based on blind party loyalty. Instead, I focus on the data, best practices, and feedback from the community. Eatontown doesn’t exist in a vacuum. We have serious problems – irresponsible spending resulting in increased taxes, overdevelopment encroaching on peaceful neighborhoods, and ever-increasing gridlock. Constantly reinventing the wheel is truly a disservice to our residents.”

Slattery, a business and global marketing executive and consultant, volunteers on three Borough Committees – Recreation, Economic Development, and Green Team. She has been interested in public service since she worked as a legislative aide to a former US Congressman and US Senator.

As a current consultant to CEOs of start-ups to mid-size companies, she has broad experience in business development, project planning, and management.

“I feel that our local government could benefit from open communication and greater transparency, engaging more residents and increasing creativity when it comes to incentives for attracting new businesses. Residents are concerned that our town is being defined by gas stations, convenience stores, and storage spaces. We can do better. I am confident that my skills will prove beneficial in bringing fresh ideas and energy to our community,” Slattery said in a press release.

Story’s extensive experience includes working with city and federal agencies, living in various states and abroad, including urban and suburban settings.

“My perspective provides some desperately needed diversity. I’m the only person on council who grew up in apartments, is currently a homeowner, a business owner, and an attorney,” Story said. “In many ways, I am the ideal of what it means to achieve the American dream.”
