Former Corrections Officer Sentenced On Shoplifting Charge

As part of her sentence, the defendant must give up her job and pay restitution for the items stolen.

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – A former Monmouth County Corrections officer was sentenced Friday for shoplifting incidents in Ocean Township and West Long Branch, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey.

Suzanne Simone, 53, of Ocean Township, a 22-year-veteran of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, was sentenced to a year of probation, plus she must quit from her position, pay over $1,300 in restitution, and never return to the stores she stole from, according to the terms set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Joseph W. Oxley.

Simone pleaded guilty to fourth-degree Shoplifting in connection with multiple instances where she failed to pay for items at local Target and Home Depot stores.

An investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Ocean Township and West Long Branch police departments, and loss prevention staff from the stores discovered that on multiple occasions, Simone “skip scanned” items, scanning multiple cheaper items while avoiding more expensive items, or simply pretending to scan them – then leaving.
