LONG BRANCH, NJ — Kushner Companies is abandoning plans to build what would have been their third hotel in Long Branch, and now wants to build a luxury condo building there instead.

This is the property — currently vacant — at the corner of Morris and Ocean avenues in Long Branch, right next to the Wave resort, also owned by Kushner. All of this is within walking distance of Pier Village.

The hotel would have been six stories and 107 rooms, with a spa. However, Kushner said it now wants to build an eight-story residential condominium complex there instead, consisting of 46 condos total, with an outdoor pool, terraces and a covered parking garage.

This was first reported in the Asbury Park Press, but is publicly available in planning documents Kushner had to submit to the Long Branch City Council, available here (starts at page 113). The Long Branch City Council will review Kushner's request at their Wednesday night meeting.

The hotel would have been called the Onada Surf Club. It is not known what the new condo complex — should it get city approval — will be named.

The hotel would have been Kushner's third beachfront hotel in Long Branch; the developer already owns and operates Wave Resort and the Bungalow Hotel.

Late last year, President Donald Trump named Charles Kushner, 70, U.S. ambassador to France, after Trump granted him a pardon during his first term as president; Kushner admitted he hired a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law and videotaped him, then sent the videotape to his sister to intimidate her from testifying before a grand jury.

Charles Kushner is the well-known Long Branch developer who owns Pier Village and Monmouth Mall in Eatontown, which his company is in the midst of an ambitious project to tear down and rebuild as Monmouth Square, luxury townhomes centered around a center green.

Kushner and his wife still live in Long Branch to this day. Kushner's son, Jared Kushner, is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka, and is one of Trump's closest advisors, particularly on the matter of U.S.-Israel relations.

Kushner's daughter, Nicole Kushner Meyer, has assumed a leadership role in the family's development business: She is now president of Kushner Cos. and currently overseeing construction of 299 apartments and a supermarket on Broadway in Long Branch. Kushner has four children total; his other son Josh is married to model Karlie Kloss.

Kushner is also the owner of the One Journal Square project in Jersey City, next to the PATH station, where they've invested nearly $1 billion in apartments and retail. And in 2024 Kushner broke ground on a new residential development in Colts Neck, featuring 15 three-story buildings with 360 residences and upscale amenities.

Kushner also owns a 55+ rental community in Fair Lawn, and a 265-residence complex in East Hanover.
