Long Branch Police Stepping Up Enforcement of Safe Crossing

Police say they will issue summonses to motorists for failure to stop and pedestrians who fail to use designated crosswalks.

The Long Branch Police will be issuing more summonses to jaywalkers and motorists who do not stop for pedestrians.

Police say they will increase the amount of officers high traffic and high pedestrian zones in the city such as Joline Avenue and Ocean Avenue starting this week.

"2010 statistics show that 4,280 pedestrians were killed and 70,000 were injured in the U.S. alone," a message on the Long Branch Police Facebook page states. "That equals 1 death every 2 hours and one injury every 8 minutes. Let's shrink those statistics together."
