Second phase projects complete in time for Little League Season

The second phase of Manahassett Creek Park is complete and ready for the start of the Little League season in Long Branch.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the park to unveil the improvements on Saturday afternoon and was attended by city officials including Long Branch Office of Community and Economic Development Jacob Jones and Recreation and Human Services Director Carl Jennings.

"It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get where we are today," Jones said.

"(With this park) we are the envy of everyone in Monmouth County and the surrounding area," Jennings said.

The largest improvement for the park, located at Manahassett Park Drive, is a 60-foot by 100-foot recreation building which includes a concession stand.

The large structure houses picnic tables, five service windows for the concession area and restrooms.

The park is the home to the city's Little League and Pop Warner teams, and improvements to some of their fields were also included in phase 2.

A small parade was also held on Saturday morning and culminated in opening day for several Little League teams.
