Reward For Assailant Of Long Branch Police Officer Rises To $30,000

Patrolman Michael Monahan suffered head and neck injuries during Sept. 20 attack.

LONG BRANCH, NJ - It's been nearly four months since Long Branch Police Officer Michael Monahan took off after he spotted someone with a flashlight on an abandoned property on the corner of Bath Avenue and Westwood Avenue.

Monahan chased the person or persons on foot. He was later found unconscious in the back of the property. He was discharged from the hospital with head and neck injuries, Public Safety Director Jason Roebuck said.

And no one knows who attacked him.

But authorities are still hoping someone does. The New Jersey Cop Shot program posted a $20,000 reward for information leading to the officer's assailant, arrest and conviction. The Crime Stoppers of Monmouth County also donated $5,000, along with Long Branch resident Vin Gopal, who also put up an additional $5,000, for a total of $30,000.
